Accessibility Statement

AACC is committed to providing information and communication technology (“ICT”) and facilities that are accessible and usable by all. In accordance with federal and state laws, students, faculty, staff, and members of the public with disabilities should be able to independently acquire the same information, engage in the same interactions, and enjoy the same services as a person without a disability in an equally effective and equally integrated manner, with substantially equivalent ease of use.

Universal design is the concept that spaces, technologies, services, academic activities, and co-curricular activities should be created to be usable by all people, to the greatest extent possible, without the need for modification. Technology that was originally designed for individuals with disabilities like resizing text, video captioning, speech-to-text dictation, touch screen devices, curb cuts in sidewalks, and many other innovations has become useful for everyone. Thus, improving accessibility for individuals with disabilities may enhance usability for all. 

Making content and spaces accessible is an essential part of AACC’s culture of equity, inclusion, and belonging. Providing accessible ICT and facilities is the responsibility of all college faculty, staff, and administrators, including developing, procuring, implementing, and maintaining accessible electronic information and technology. AACC favors third-party web content and technology providers that meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) accessibility standards for their products and services. 

Digital Accessibility Standards

AACC actively works to increase the accessibility and usability of our electronic information and technology to meet the current accessibility standards set by WCAG.  Some examples of best practices include:

  • Providing color contrast in text
  • Including text cues when using color in text
  • Presenting text alternatives (“alt text”) for images
  • Displaying accurate ADA-compliant video captions
  • Using labels, supporting keyboard access, and providing clear instructions for online forms
  • Displaying large text size and allowing zoom capability
  • Providing keyboard and mouse navigation options
  • Utilizing headings for better navigation
  • Checking for accessibility using automated accessibility checkers and manual review

Reporting an Accessibility Concern

Web platforms, contents, and services as well as assistive technologies are constantly evolving. AACC reviews its website and other ICT periodically to check and improve accessibility. Additionally, the college seeks to enhance the accessibility of its facilities, buildings, and spaces. AACC is engaged in continuous improvement and welcomes your feedback for improving the accessibility and usability of our ICT and facilities. The college will address compliance concerns as they arise.

For ICT accessibility issues, please include the following information:

  1. Your contact information: name, telephone number, and email address;
  2. The URL for the webpage in question or a description of where to locate the content;
  3. Technical information: the operating system or device (Mac, PC, iPhone, Android, etc.), the web browser name and version (Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, etc.), and any adaptive software or assistive technology you are using, if applicable (JAWS, NVDA, etc.);
  4. A description of the issues you have encountered with as much detail as possible; and
  5. If you are able to do so, please include a screen shot(s) or image(s) of the webpage or other ICT where you encountered the issue.

For facility accessibility issues, please include the following information:

  1. Your contact information: name, telephone number, and email address;
  2. The facility, building, or space question or a description of where the physical accessibility concern is located;
  3. A description of the issues you have encountered with as much detail as possible; and
  4. If you are able to do so, please include an image(s) or video(s) of the location where you encountered the issue.

Reasonable Accommodations

A reasonable accommodation means any modification or adjustment for a qualified individual with a disability to the work or learning environment, to the job application process, and/or to enjoy benefits and privileges of employment or education equal to those enjoyed by other similarly situated individuals without disabilities.
