A Little More

Teri Kotkiewicz grew up in a large and funny family on Staten Island, N.Y. As the youngest of five children, she learned to be resilient and spunky. Those qualities have served her well in her career in international banking and higher education.

She worked in New York City for MasterCard International and Maestro International before moving to Maryland, where she began teaching business management courses at AACC in 2008. In her classroom, she likes to bring in real-world assignments, as well as a dose of humor.

“Students say I always connect what they are learning about with the ‘real world.’ Business is a practical subject and I present it with current topics and everyday issues. I also do it with a sense of humor to keep them engaged. Sometimes fact is funnier than fiction,” she said.

Kotkiewicz (who is a student herself, finishing her doctorate) finds inspiration in her students’ ability to overcome struggles to get to class and complete their assignments.

“Each student has a story to tell and unique circumstances they muddle through. I am very proud to be part of their journey through life.”

In her spare time, Kotkiewicz enjoys spending time with her beagles and her family, including her husband, son, daughter and son-in-law. She also loves traveling and has visited six continents and many states in the U.S. She has many incredible travel memories, but her favorite is diving Australia’s Great Barrier Reef with her husband. She values family, faith and education, and tries to live a life to honor those values.
