A Little More 

At AACC, you’ll often find that the faculty teaching your classes are still actively working in the field they’re teaching. Heidi Rayner is one example. She’s an associate professor of nursing, but she’s also an emergency department nurse. She can easily relate to what her students are experiencing and learning, and her students feel comfortable sharing their concerns and triumphs with her. In turn, she finds inspiration in her students. 

“AACC students – especially nursing students – are resilient, flexible, compassionate and strong,” she said. “They have a desire to challenge themselves to work in a field that is in need of strong, empowered nurses to advocate for change.”  

In addition to teaching, Rayner serves as a nurse mentor and retention specialist within the School of Health Sciences and as the faculty advisor for the college’s Alpha Deta Nu Nursing Honor Society chapter.
