Mickey Dehn has been an esteemed member of the Biology department at AACC since 2015. With a robust academic background in fish physiology and extensive teaching experience, he brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to his classes. At AACC, he teaches Human Anatomy and Physiology (BIO-233 and 234), Human Biology (BIO-231) and Structure and Function of the Human Body (BIO-230), primarily to students preparing for careers in nursing and allied health fields.

Dehn's journey to AACC is marked by a diverse and fascinating career. He conducted research on Coconut Island in Hawaii, studied wood-eating catfish of the Amazon at Towson University and discovered a love for teaching that led him to various educational institutions. Before joining AACC, he taught in Anne Arundel County Public Schools, served as an adjunct instructor at several community colleges and spent five years as a full-time lecturer at Towson University.

Outside the classroom, Dehn is passionate about writing and playing music, organizing creative food and craft competitions for fundraising, LGBTQ activism and home improvement projects. He also loves beach destinations. These interests reflect his commitment to community involvement and personal growth.

At AACC, Dehn appreciates the college's dedication to providing high-quality, accessible education and its support for innovative instructional practices. He values the institution's commitment to equity, diversity, inclusivity and anti-racist practices. When he first visited AACC, Dehn was impressed by the college's extensive student support services and high-tech science facilities. Accepting a position here was an easy decision, and he remains dedicated to contributing to AACC's mission of serving the community through education.
