Trevor Churchill, a former AACC carpentry pre-apprenticeship student, has excelled in the field of carpentry and is building his career with Bayview Builders.
“Trevor came to us with a working knowledge of how to use common power tools safely, a general understanding of basic carpentry skills and a strong desire to learn," said Rich Lang, director of construction at Bayview Builders. "As a result, Trevor has been able to make an almost instant impact on our production team.”
Bayview Builders values hiring AACC students for their readiness and proactive approach. Churchill attributes much of his success to AACC's pre-apprenticeship carpentry program.
“The program has contributed greatly to my success so far," he said. "It equipped me with the basic carpentry knowledge and connected me with job opportunities through a well-organized job fair to wrap up the program.”
“It is not a secret that today’s construction workforce is aging out at a rate much faster than it is being replenished," Lang said. "Having a program like the one at AACC will be invaluable to introducing a new generation of carpenters to the industry. It is an extremely necessary, long overdue and very welcome asset to our community.”
Trevor says to those who are considering this path, “Show your genuine interest in the trade and others will notice. When they see you’re committed to learning, they will pass down the knowledge they’ve learned to help you grow in your career.”
