W2s. 1099s. 1098s. Doing your taxes can be confusing, but Anne Arundel Community College’s School of Business and Law is here to help taxpayers file for free through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
Through VITA, IRS-certified volunteers provide free, basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals with $58,000 or less in annual income for 2021.
The program will process both federal and state returns through three formats: face-to-face, drop-off or virtual. All formats require an appointment, which are available from 3:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays until April 2022.
“The volunteers go through a pretty rigorous process,” said Michael P. Gavin, site coordinator and adjunct professor of business administration at the college. “It’s rewarding for both the volunteers and our clients.”
Sophie Scheidegger, a business administration transfer student and VITA volunteer, would agree. "It's such a good service that I think people should know about.”
