I. Purpose
A. The purpose of this Transfer Credit for Prior Learning Examinations Procedure (“Procedure”) is to implement the Transfer Credit for Prior Learning Examinations Policy (“Policy”) and establishes a process for Anne Arundel Community College (“College”) to award academic credit for Prior Learning Examinations.
II. Scope and Applicability
A. This Procedure applies to students who wish to be awarded academic credit for Prior Learning Examinations, as defined in the Policy.
B. This Procedure does not apply to credit from other Nontraditional Sources, as defined in the Policy.
III. Definitions
A. All capitalized terms in this Procedure have the meanings provided in the Policy.
B. All other capitalized terms in this Procedure have the following meanings:
1. Business Day means any day that is not a Saturday or Sunday or day that the College is closed, such as holidays, spring break, winter break, or other day that the College announces that it is closed.
2. The College Board means a Testing Agency that administers the AP and CLEP examinations.
IV. Review of Prior Learning Examinations Content
A. On an annual basis, Records and Registration staff will notify Faculty of any additional examinations or changes or updates to Prior Learning Examination content.
B. Faculty will evaluate Prior Learning Examination content, determine course and credit equivalencies, and verify acceptable scores, within ten (10) Business Days of receiving notification from the Records and Registration staff.
C. The College will update the Catalog to reflect any and all changes to Prior Learning Examination course equivalencies and/or acceptable scores.
V. Student Request for Transfer Credit for Prior Learning Examinations
A. In order to receive academic credit for Prior Learning Examinations, a Student must request that an Official Score Report from a Testing Agency be sent directly to the College.
1. The College will not accept a score report directly from a Student, unless the Official Score Report is enclosed in the original sealed envelope from the Testing Agency that is signed or stamped across the seal with the seal still intact.
2. Information regarding how to request an Official Score Report for Prior Learning Examinations is listed under Forms/Guidelines below.
B. Upon receipt of a Student’s Official Score Report from a Testing Agency or from a Student as set forth above, a College transfer credit evaluator will review Prior Learning Examinations scores and award credit on a Student’s transcript, consistent with the provisions of the Policy, this Procedure, and the Catalog.
C. The College may award credit, if appropriate, within twenty (20) Business Days of receipt of an Official Score Report.
D. If awarded, the transfer credit for Prior Learning Examination will be reflected in the College’s student portal within twenty (20) Business Days after the College receives the Official Score Report.
