Diane Hallila

Diane Hallila joined AACC in 2014 and is a full-time personal counselor and coordinator for the counseling department.

She completed her Master of Arts in counseling and student personnel services from The University of Maryland, College Park, in 2006. She has been a licensed counselor since 2007 and became a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in 2009. Hallila is certified in trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and brief strategic family therapy. She is also a certified instructor of QPR Gatekeeper Training as well as Mental Health First Aid USA. She is a Maryland board-approved supervisor in clinical professional counseling and is trained as a global career development facilitator.

Hallila's professional experience includes student and clinical work in a variety of academic and nonprofit settings. She facilitates workshops at AACC on a variety of topics for faculty, staff and students. Her special interests include stress management, psychopathy, anxiety and mindfulness.

Melissa W. Boling

Melissa Boling joined Anne Arundel Community College in 2019 and is a full-time personal counselor. At AACC, she provides brief counseling focusing on students experiencing personal or mental health stressors affecting their functioning. Additionally, she helps present workshops to faculty, staff and students on various topics including developmental disabilities and mental health topics such as test anxiety, isolation and loneliness, and seasonal depression.

Boling completed her Master of Science in clinical psychology in 2006. She completed additional coursework and then obtained her licensed graduate professional counselor. After completing the required clinical supervision hours, she became a licensed clinical professional counselor in 2010. 

Boling has provided mental health counseling to children, adolescents, young adults and families since 2007 in outpatient and educational settings including the Kennedy Krieger Institute, University of Maryland, Baltimore, and Sheppard Pratt Health System. She has experience working with individuals with autism spectrum disorders and with their families. She is a Maryland board-approved supervisor in clinical professional counseling. Boling also is a national certified counselor.

She is certified as a Mental Health First Aid USA instructor and QPR Gatekeeper instructor.

Marisa Sherman

Marisa Sherman joined AACC in 2022 as a part time personal counselor. She completed her Master of Science in counseling psychology from Loyola College in 1999. Sherman became a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) in 2004 and is also a board approved supervisor in clinical professional counseling.

In addition to working at AACC, Sherman works at Bowie Youth and Family Services providing family counseling and psychoeducational groups. She has worked at the Youth Service Bureau since 2000 and enjoys seeing teens she once worked with now thriving as young adults. Sherman also works in private practice with individuals and adults of all ages. She is trained in a variety of trauma-informed models of therapy, including EMDR and TFCBT.  Sherman's clinical areas of special interest are working with anxiety disorders, mental health issues resulting from food allergies, mindfulness and supporting young adults as they transition into independence.
